Someday is Tomorrow

"I still do you know." Buffy whispered.

"What?" Angel looked up at her.

"A couple years ago in the graveyard. You asked me if I cared about what happens in the future, and I said that you were all I saw in my future." She paused. "Well, it never changed. All I see is you. You're all I ever saw - even when I was with Riley and getting all messed up with Spike. I could never love anyone else." Tears threatened to fall at any moment.

"I never stopped loving you either." He said, followed by a light kiss to her forehead.  He smiled and continued, "We will have that future someday,  someday soon. I'm sure of it."

She whispered, "Soon couldn't be quick enough."

He agreed silently and turned his attention back to the diamond ring on Buffy's finger.

One Week Later

The previous week had been rather calm which was to be expected.  It had been at least a year since Wolfram & Hart had been destroyed.  Since then, there had usually been a vampire here and there, or a random demon to slay, but that was it. There hadn't been anything major. Everything had been running smoothly with Angel and Illyria working side by side with Buffy, Willow and Xander.  Even Oz returned to join their cause.  It was almost like old times.  Then they got wind of an upcoming apocalypse.

It was suppose to a minor one and it was, but sometime during the battle something went terribly wrong. They let their guard down. He let his guard down.

And now, on this pitch black and bloody night, he was holding a barely conscious Buffy in his arms.  Her clothes were torn and bloody where she had been slashed.  There was so much blood - so much blood, he just couldn't stop it all. "B-Buffy." He choked out through a sob.

She opened her eyes weakly.  If she was going to die tonight she was going to see his face one last time. "Angel." She whispered brokenly, the pain too much to speak.

He tried to smile for her.   A tear landed on her cheek.  "Hang in there."

She was a fighter.  She thought she could take anything, but... "I... c-can't."

"Please."  Don't take her from me, Angel thought as he brushed hair away from her cheeks.  They were rosy and so full of life once, but now they're just pale and bruised.  He leaned down and gently pressed a kiss to her lips.

"I'm sorry."  Buffy whispered.

"You can't leave yet.  We have our future.  Buffy, remember a week ago I mentioned that prophecy about me getting my humanity?  This is it.  Our someday is going to be a lot sooner than we thought.  So you have to fight."

"Something worth.. f-fighting f-for."  She smiled painfully.

She closed her eyes.

"Buffy?"  He said, with a hint of terror in his voice.  "Buffy."

She opened her eyes slowly and smiled reassuringly.  They stared into each other's eyes until help arrived.  Their time together isn't over yet.  It's only just begun.
